Tale of Four Warnerds: The Beastie Boys

Tale of Four Warnerds: The Beastie Boys

Welcome to the Tale of Four Warnerds! Each week, four intrepid warlords will collect, build, and paint towards their ultimate goal: a world-shaking tournament! The winner’s army will live in the Table Top Nerds studio as glorious champions, and the remaining armies will be auctioned off for charity!

Hello, I’m Zack, and if you’ve heard of me before in the Warhammer community, it’s probably due to my increasingly irreverent podcast, Atlanta Warhammer (also creatively titled). But don’t worry! I’ll actually be doing my best to win this one, as opposed to my usual style of beer and pretzels gaming. Just don’t tell the other combatants, I’m going to need all the help I can get.

Picking an faction to collect was a small challenge for me on this round, as most of the AoS factions I like are already sitting on my shelf in some capacity. So, I went with a bit of a ringer: Beasts of Chaos, a faction I technically played for a bit around 2018 or so. As the most recent book is a far, far cry from that set of rules, I’d still be getting that fresh faction flavor.

The best place to start is, of course, the Vanguard set, so I’ll be combining two of these with a few other pieces for the full 2K list. If there’s one thing I had forgotten about building BoC, it’s that the Bestigores are truly the best at holding their axes at a weird angle because you accidentally attached arm A to axe B, and now the whole box is offset. Also, Dragon Ogors will draw blood while being built, and may be classified as a weapon in some states. For the paint scheme, I;m going fairly traditional, with a deep red base over brown, black, and grey. The true followers of chaos are not known for their aesthetics (Slaanesh aside), so I’m having a great time using a combination of slap-chop, drybrushing, and contrast paints to bring out a really dark, grimy look. I want these goat boys to look like a huge, unwashed horde barreling across the table, and so far, I’m really liking the results.

Next week, I’ll tackle the big guy: the imposing Ghorgon.
